More than just IT Documentation

i-doit is more than just the best open source platform for IT documentation. With its intelligent relationship model, its modeling of IT services, its management of device and application configurations, and its visualization of dependencies and statistics, i-doit is a fully enterprise-ready CMDB.

I-doit was founded in 2004, originally as an IT documentation tool. In addition to a variety of object types, (Config Item classes) features such as import and export modules, reporting functions, and LDAP integration moved thousands of users to successfully implement i-doit. Users can choose from either a free or a commercial version.

Data Integration and Interfaces

An open API and separate modules and extensions make i-doit the control room of your data center operation. Once all configurations have been set, they can be made available to all other processes for further processing, making the manual entry and maintenance of system data such as hostname, IP, software, etc. unnecessary in the ITSM processes Availability, Performance, Risk, Incident, Problem, Change and Release Management. One of i-doit’s great advantages is that it goes beyond the mere forwarding of data and provides a number of ways to capture data, for example by automatic scans, inventory, discovery and through the API.

i-doit is a Configuration Management System (CMS)

Large organizations often use several distributed CMDBs. One of the most common reasons cited is the lack of specialization among the CMDBs. Aside from VMs, servers and operating machines, assets are very different in kind. Industry-specific applications and other assets often have quite idiosyncratic features. i-doit’s generic architecture enables the mapping of industry blueprints on the one hand and the combination of several CMDBs into a top-level CMS (Configuration Management System) on the other.
