What does 5G Campus mean?

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear 5G campuses are universities. But 5G Campus or 5G Campus network means industrial networks, i.e., the network of a company premises or a factory building. These are now to be expanded with 5G or replace the existing WLAN (Industry 4.0). The German Federal Network Agency has kept an area in the new 5G network free for companies, the so-called private frequencies. These do not overlap with the public mobile network. As a result, companies can build an autonomous network and manage their network independently of public network operators. IT security in the company’s own network is logically higher than in public networks. Furthermore, these networks cover only a small geographical area, so the network is local. This reduces interference from other network frequencies and thus achieves better availability.

Analysis & Evaluation
becon
analyses and supports you in the brainstorming and development of your individual campus environment and the corresponding use case (use case evaluation), the frequency requirements and the rough evaluation of possible further partners.

Conception & Planning
Development of a specific application and integration concept, with planning of the use case development. Planning and calculation of the radio networks for the campus network. Development of a frequency concept and its application. Planning of the project flow based on PM, Prince2 or “best practice” project management. Support in application appropriate vendor selection, system design, functional and integration testing, training and operational support as required.

Development & implementation
Execution of the frequency network application at the BNetzA, procurement and construction of the campus networks. Development and adaptation of use cases and procurement of possible sensors, components and devices. Implementation of the project rollout according to the agreed plan in cooperation with the customer and partner. Establish or adapt the appropriate functions and processes for operations and support. Conduct training and qualification of operations and support staff.

Acceptance Test & Optimization
Execution of the functional and integration tests, as well as creation of the corresponding documentation to be required. Review radio network test results and improve with respect to agreed functional targets (latency/throughput/security) . Transfer to regular operation with final functional and process testing for operation and support.
