The Microsoft Cloud Community Germany (www.mscommunity.cloud) met in Fulda on February 2, 2017. becon GmbH joined together with orange networks and Fortinet to sponsor this successful event. Here’s a short extract from that day:

The evening before the event we got together over a hearty meal and craft beer to fortify ourselves for the next day’s hard work.

After the community leaders Markus Klein and Lennart Passig greeted the participants, a firework of diverse presentations was given.

Alexander Ortha, Technology Consultant Cloud Infrastructure at Microsoft, gave an interesting overview of Azure Stack TP2. Exclusive tip for our readers: The complete documentation for Azure Stack is available at GitHub.

Following the first coffee break, Andreas Koll, Azure Technology Solutions Professional at Microsoft, gave a fascinating briefing on Microsoft’s open source activities, which revealed that Microsoft has indeed changed its tune on open source.

Markus Klein, MVP and Senior IT Architect at orange networks GmbH, then showed us how to connect to Azure AD using the Single Sign On. This enables the post migration user to dispense with the internal Active Directory (AD) and to sign on to Azure AD in the public cloud with Windows 10 directly.

Following the lunch break I, Steffen Rieger of becon, spoke about the integration of Azure into IT processes of larger companies. Here’s a link for your viewing pleasure (in German):

At the same time as my presentation, Lennart Passig, IT Architect at orange networks GmbH, led a workshop on the subject of Azure lifecycle management with a focus on CI and CD using ARM templates and Visual Studio Team Services. These three and a half hours proved to be not only technical, but innovative, as Amazon Alexa was integrated as well. Especially the live demonstration of a speech-controlled approval process within the Visual Studio Team Services impressed the audience.

Verena Ewerle, Channel Account Manager at Fortinet, demonstrated how important the subject of security in agile cloud environments is. Fortinet has developed a number of unique solutions to secure cloud infrastructures. While they have formed a particularly close liaison with Microsoft Azure, Fortinet also provides market-leading products for many other security scenarios as well.

The MVPs Markus Klein and Florian Klaffenbach, Lead Consultant Microsoft Infrastructure at msg services ag, delivered a very unusual presentation under the motto „Your place or mine?“ In their surprisingly deftly-played skit, „to your place“ represented the public cloud with Azure, while „to my place“ represented a choice for the private cloud with Azure Stack. During the course of the exchange, Markus and Florian presented the advantages of the two choices for various requirements.

The event in our pleasant Fulda venue was a complete success. The next such event will presumably take place in Krefeld. We are already preparing for it and hope to entertain and inform a large number of participants.
