KMU Campus Network

Extended Reality & 5G

A private 5G campus network for small and medium-sized enterprises

The KMU campus network is a 5G standalone system designed for small and medium-sized enterprises. The main advantage is the software-based architecture, which significantly reduces acquisition costs due to the elimination of licensing costs from well-known manufacturers. This means that small and medium-sized enterprises do not have to forego the benefits of a private 5G network.

Application examples

Communication – 5G replaces WLAN
Faster, more secure and higher data exchange

Industry 4.0 – Networking of industrial machines and monitoring of production processes
Improved and more accurate networking of equipment, reduction of failure rate through real-time monitoring of machines and their wear and tear

Plant site security – integration of 5G cameras and/or drones for security monitoring
detection and tracking of intruders until plant security arrives on site

AR/VR – Digital Twin and support of professional forces
Display of exploded views directly on the device with precise localization of the defective section.

Data sovereignty
Own data servers on the plant premises, access only with special SIM card

Technical advantages

Performance characteristics of 5G:

high bandwidth (eMBB), low latency (URLLC), secure network (AC), high number of connected devices (mMTC)

~

Private mobile radio (3.7 - 3.8 GHz):

access to the network only with the corresponding SIM card. Full control over network subscribers.

Customization for your company:

Depending on the requirements, an exact number of antenna units (indoor as well as outdoor) with corresponding design of the basic components (Central Unit (CU) / Distributed Unit (DU)) and the 5G core.

About

Architecture

The KMU campus network is a combination of coordinated components:

Raemis from Druid Software maps the 5G core component of the KMU campus network. The core is based on the O-RAN standard, which aims at interoperability of devices from different vendors with a software-based architecture. The manufacturer Airspan Networks supplies Central Unit (CU), Distributed Unit (DU) and SmartCells. Furthermore, commodity switches and antenna units are used for indoor and outdoor applications, depending on the required coverage.

becon integrates these components and ensures compatibility. The Core and the Central Unit (CU) are deployed on a powerful server. A dedicated server hardware is required for the Distributed Unit (DU) to which the antenna units are connected. Up to three outdoor antennas or up to eight indoor antennas can be connected to one DU.

Special SIM cards are supplied for integration into the “KMU campus network”. These are not designed for the public network and can only access the private campus network. This is another security feature of the “KMU Campus Network”.
